Step Outside: Walking Your Way to Health and Happiness | By Lee Scott Published by Plumleaf Press
Focus
Wellness & Emotional Connection.
The Narrative
For this collaboration with Plumleaf Press, the design strategy centered on intentionality. Rather than a standard wellness manual, I directed a visual experience that echoes the physical act of stepping into nature—clear, warm, and restorative. This project highlights my ability to translate a 'comfort-first' ethos into a refined, tactile brand story that resonates with health-conscious audiences.
Publishing Context
As a growing independent press, Plumleaf Press sought to establish a distinctive and refined visual presence where design quality plays a key role in brand perception, reader loyalty, and market differentiation.
My Role
I led editorial creative direction and visual design for the book, while also contributing to the broader visual ecosystem of the publisher through website design, promotional campaigns, and print marketing materials.
Creative Direction
The design approach for Step Outside centered on clarity, warmth, and openness — visually echoing the emotional and physical experience of stepping into nature.
Typography and layout were crafted to feel approachable and encouraging, balancing structured fitness guidance with moments of inspiration and reflection. Imagery reinforced themes of movement, mindfulness, and well-being.
Rather than a dense instructional manual, the book was designed to feel like a companion — supportive, energizing, and emotionally resonant, in keeping with Plumleaf Press’s mission to create books that readers return to and treasure.
